Equal Adventure is proud to deliver an upcoming workshop which works towards making fieldwork and expeditions more accessible with disabled people, and provide an introduction to disability and inclusion in fieldwork and expeditions.
If you are a researcher, a university lecturer, or a leader, who is interested in developing more inclusive approaches to fieldwork and expeditions practices, this course will provide you with the opportunity to further explore and understand the practicalities of running inclusive expeditions and fieldwork with a person-centred, functional approach. This includes focusing on the individual needs and goals of participants, and creating a safe and meaningful environment.
To increase participation in fieldwork and expeditions, it is important to first build up and instil confidence, which the course introduces a range of tools to encourage and develop.
The course consists of two sessions, both two hours long, and is an online based learning course, so there is no need for long travel days! Throughout the course, case studies will be used to explain and explore key points clearly, such as practical and ethical issues to be considered by organisers, leaders, and teams. Structures and methods that have been used in fieldwork and expeditions all over the world will be investigated, as will planning and preparation issues to ensure that everyone is mentally and physically ready for their journey. As well as being supported through daily activities and routines, this course knows that everyone will be supported when they begin new challenges.
